I am a qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with a range of experience in both public and private practice. I use a psychoanalytical/psychodynamic model to address deep-rooted, entrenched issues and their symptoms. This deeper exploration typically takes longer than other forms of therapy and, in itself, can be quite unsettling at times. Over time, however, the loosening of longstanding unhealthy patterns can dislodge or reduce the symptom be it depression, addictions, fixations, relationship issues amongst others.
My approach is that we are never entirely ‘fixed’, even by long term therapy, and we are all in some way traumatised by life events, particularly loss be it death, relationships, work or ideals. However, putting your story into words, gaining a sense of the pattern to your life to date and the challenging of often dearly held ideas about yourself and your relation to the uncertainty of life can return a sense of aliveness and purpose to living. This can in turn move you on from unhelpful repetition or being ‘stuck’ in unrewarding ways of being and experiencing.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and follow an academic term schedule. I do not charge for assessment, as this is an opportunity to see if we can work with one another. If we proceed, thereafter, I charge £45/session and, as standard in psychotherapy, I charge for missed sessions. As a member of SSCP, I see people from their psychoanalytic clinic.
As a member of both UKCP and BACP, I abide by their codes for ethical conduct.
